Important Dates & Times

N.C. History Day contests are divided into three tiers: regionals, state, and national contests.  All students must first qualify at a regional contest in order to register and compete at the state contest. 

Contest Date: Saturday, April 27, 2019

Contest Locations: The contest will be split betweent the N.C. Museum of History and the N.C. Archives & History Building which are within a block of each other.

Registration for the 2019 N.C. History Day state contest opens on March 6th and closes on April 12th at 11:59 p.m.

Congratulations on qualifying for the state contest! A few reminders:

  1. The deadline for registration, payments, and submission of any required materials for your category is Friday, April 12th. To find out what materials are due for your category by this date, please click here and find your category and carefully read its section.
  2. If you would like to be considered for a special prize, you can self-nominate by Friday, April 12th.  Click here for directions on how to self-nominate.
  3. Each student participating in the state contest must pay a $20 registration fee.  Payments will be accepted by credit card or by check.  For instructions on how to do this in the system, please click here. If paying by check, please make them payable to the Federation of NC Historical Societies (FNCHS) and mail them to us with your invoice (provided during the registration process).
  4. Mail all checks and required paperwork for your category to:

  5. Hand delivery of any items must be pre-arranged with Karen Ipock.  Due to our offices being located in a government building, access is limited and hand delivery is not possible if not pre-arranged. Our offices are not located at the Museum of History so materials dropped off there will not make it to us.
